Teaching

My teaching philosophy, accessible via the navigation panel or by clicking HERE, details the my core beliefs about my students, myself, and education itself that guide my pedagogical practice.

I have been teaching at the university level for over a decade in both my speciality areas of drama pedagogy, theatre for yound audiences, and applied theatre as well as courses ranging from non-major classes such as theatre appreciation to upper-level theatre history classes to specialized seminars in topics such as dramaturgy. A complete list of courses taught is included in my CV, and sample syllabi and other materials are available through the links above. Below are photos from recent courses in Applied Theatre and Methods of Teaching Drama.

In addition, I hold educator licensenses in the states of Massachusetts (Theatre, Grades K-12) and Utah (Secondary Education, Grades 7-12 with a Theatre Endorsement Grades K-12).  I have taught students at every grade level from kindergarten through graduate school and regularly partner with local school districts to incorporate drama & theatre into their curriculum and introduce university students into K-12 classrooms as teaching artists from the very beginning of their entire academic career. Below are photos from partnerships between my program and elementary schools.

I also regularly provide teacher professional development sessions, and am included in the Utah Division of Arts and Museums Teaching Artist Roster, "the recommended source of artists for grantees who are funded for residencies, projects and events" by state, national or other funding sources. Photos below are from the USU Arts Are Core summer workshop series for teachers.
